Not Forgotten

Not Forgotten (2009)

Inspired by old tombstones at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in Jerome, Virginia, a Civil War era church in Shenandoah County. When driving by one day, I noticed that one grave had a fresh Confederate flag peeking around from behind. I was taken with the poignant thought that someone still remembers and honors that fallen soldier of that tragic war. The flag is small and not the center of the picture to show how such gestures of the heart are so often overlooked.

The Gentleman From Woodstock

The Gentleman From Woodstock (2009)

A local balloonist taking off near Columbia Furnace Church of the Brethren in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Though I do not know his name, the owner of this hot air balloon has become a source of delight and a familiar sight on many a Sunday morning as we drive to church.
