Welcome to my site
I have been working in color pencil since 1999. I was trained at the Art League in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, and am a member of the Color Pencil Society of America (CPSA) and the Valley Educational Center for the Creative Arts (VECCA). I have worked in acrylics, watercolor, and multi-media, but my true love is color pencil. The following is my artistic philosophy.
While training is essential in the early stages of an artist’s career, it is also essential to follow one’s heart; to create what feels right to the individual artist. How boring art would be if this were not so!
After trying other media (such as acrylics and watercolors), I fell in love with color pencil. I love the detail that can be achieved with it, but I am also constantly experimenting with it to create new techniques.
As a serious artistic medium, color pencil has only been around for about 60 years, so today’s color pencil artists have the freedom to experiment and trail blaze the art form. I favor the technique of layering and burnishing. Some of my pieces have up to 18 layers of color to achieve the effect I was looking for.
I hope you enjoy browsing my work. It is a pleasure to share it with you.
